Too many business owners are fruitlessly searching for Internet Marketing’s “Holy Grail”. You need to get out there and “do” more than you need to learn another technique or strategy.

Sure, there are great techniques you could be using. I am sure there are products out there which will teach you how to market better online. You should always be learning. The moment you stop learning, you start stagnating.

You will find that many of the techniques that the top experts teach you may actually disagree with one another. This is because there is only one true judge of what works in the online marketplace…testing and results.

Without testing everything you put to use, you will never know what is or can work for you.

There is one “Secret” of Internet marketing every single successful Internet marketer will agree upon.

If you sit back and do nothing, you will get nothing!

Successful markers are always doing something. If you sit on the sidelines and read, learn and study without ever taking action, you’ll never make any money.

Start doing something…even if it doesn’t work!

Internet marketing requires lots of “practice”.

If you want to become a better copywriter, learn and study, but then take massive action and start testing what you’ve learned against your existing sales letters.

A simple fact that almost no one seems to mention is that even some of the most successful companies in the world only expect one out of seven products they create to be a success.

Claude Hopkins, considered by many to be one of the greatest marketing minds ever, recorded this in “Scientific Advertising:”

“There are many surprises in advertising. A project you will laugh at may make a great success. A project you are sure of may fall down. All because tastes differ so. None of us know enough peoples desires to get an average viewpoint.”

The first site you create might not be that profitable. If you are smart and stay in contact with the right people, you will learn something from it. Your next web site may be the success you are looking for.

The reason for your current failure, could be the wrong product, or the wrong market. If you can explain in one paragraph (or less) who your target market is, then you’re not ready for success.

Test different products. Test different markets. Test different advertising mediums and methods. Test different ads. Only through testing can you tell what will work for you.

The trick is to keep your testing small. Started PPC campaign, test an ezine ad or two, run some banner ads.

Set a small budget, say of 100 or $200, just for testing every month.

Never spend money on advertising that could put you out of business. It should be a small and risk-free monthly budget.

If you really have no money to spend on advertising this, start with free traffic techniques.

There’s dozens of great free techniques that you can use. However, never spend more time on them than you can afford to lose.

Time is money and as you become more and more successful in this business, it is the time that you run out of first.

The Secret to Internet marketing is to “Do Something.”

If your tests don’t work out, you’ve learned something, try something else.

The second Internet marketing secret is a lot like the first. It’s simply “don’t give up!”

Guerilla Marketing Guide

by Kirt Christensen

I never thought selling rare books online would be such a difficult task. My idea a few years ago seemed great. I thought all I needed was to create a website and the rest would take care of itself. My assumptions were wrong, and unfortunately I had to find that out the hard way. There was not a long list of people waiting to take my books as I first predicted.

I thought to myself “How can I have such low sales, when I had such a great website and a good selling strategy?”. I wondered what I could do to increase my sales. If I used my shopping cart would that help me? Finally, I began to research shopping cart software to figure out how I could fix my problem.

I guess the first thing that you have to really know is what you want to do. You just can’t choose the first software without carefully studying its characteristics and not knowing if it takes care of all your needs.

The question of how my shopping cart can help my sales was still unanswered. I imagined what I would do. I do a lot of impulse buying at real stores, so I researched to see if this was the case online. I found out that impulse shopping is online too. If you give your buyer choices, or examples of what others have bought, this may increase sales.

Another way to help impulse buying is by giving out coupons for multiple items. It is great when you sell one thing, but if you can get them to buy two or more that is even better! Volume buy is another option you can have, by adding a forum where your buyers can decide on an item they want to buy in volume is a great option.

If you have a affiliated program that is well designed than this may also help with sales. You can promote your items for little or no cost. Some shopping carts are able to take care of the signup process, give statistics, and even check payments.

A not so trivial thing to take into account is how informative is your website. Do you have thumbnail images f the products? If you have to ship an item, does the buyer have all the information? (Fees, estimate delivery time, etc).

Asking professional help is never bad either. If you still do not know how your shopping cart can help increase sales, asking a professional will not hurt.
